Albright, Lizzie: 1924
Lizzie Albright lived at Seventh Avenue and First Street in Altoona. She was shot and killed by her husband, Harry P. Albright, on January 23, 1924. The crime took place during a party. His explanation was that she had aggravated him to the point that he was compelled to kill her.
Albright was arraigned on March 12, 1924, and pled guilty to second degree murder. Judge Thomas Baldrige sentenced him to 9 to 15 years, and Albright was incarcerated at Rockview. During this time, he was converted and joined the Church of the Brethren in Hollidaysburg. While at Rockview, he was noted to be a mostly model prisoner. He appealed for clemency, and Governor Fisher commuted his sentence on January 15, 1931. Albright was noted as a hardworking, inoffensive, industrious man of good family. Nothing is noted about Lizzie’s character, or how she aggravated such a pleasant person to the point of murder. She, of course, was unable to speak at her husband’s trial, or to Governor Fisher. Harry P. Albright was released.
