Emeigh, Laura: 1888

Laura Emeigh, shot in the abdomen by her father, February 15, 1888.  Her father, Ressler Emeigh, shot himself in the head. Ressler Emeigh may have a veteran of the Civil War; there is a tombstone in Cambria County for his name (spelled as recorded in the coroner’s report) noting he was in Company A, 55th Pennsylvania Infantry.  No dates are on the stone.  Census records from Summerhill Township, Cambria County, 1850 show him being 6 years old at the time; his parents were John and Catherine, farmers.  He would have been about 44 years old when he murdered his daughter.
