Figard, Elwood: 1980

Elwood Figard was the elderly owner of a bowling alley in Altoona. Leonard Bocchicchio, also of Altoona, and just nineteen at the time of his crime, beat the man to death in his bowling alley, with a bowling ball in December of 1980. Jurors deliberated for three hours on April 8, 1983, before returning a verdict of guilty of first degree murder. Bocchicchio filed an appeal from the sentence; the Superior Court denied in on October 5, 1984. Boccicchio remains in the medium-security Houtzdale State Correctional Institution.
