Fisher, Thomas: 1937

Thomas Fisher was beaten in his Altoona cottage on July 28, 1937.   After his death, Elvin Gates, 25, of Martinsburg, was charged with the murder of the bookkeeper. He was serving a 90-day sentence on a chain-gang in South Carolina for a motor vehicle violation when his identity was learned. Altoona authorities were alerted and made arrangements to return him from Blacksburg, South Carolina.
