Darrell Johnson, 49, of 1259 Grouse Drive, Pittsburgh, was shot to death at the home of Alice Detwiler of Duncansville on December 19, 1967. He was shot in the chest with a .22 caliber Harrington and Richardson model 922 revolver. The murder took place at about 4:30 a.m.
The killer, Alice Bradford Detwiler, called State Police. The body was found lying on her front porch.
Detwiler was arrested, and charged with murder by State Trooper Fred L. Leamer. arraigned before Justice of the Peace Roy Hopkins at 9:30 a.m. the morning of the crime, and went on trial on April of 1968. The District Attorney, John Woodcock, did not seek the death penalty, although he did ask for a verdict in the first degree. Detwiler’s defense attorney, Merle K. Evey, claimed she had acted in self-defense after Johnson attacked her during a quarrel.
