Kirstner, Kathryn Emma (Beatty): 1949
Kathryn Emma (Beatty) Kirstner was murdered by her husband, John Kirstner, on April 12, 1949, in Altoona. She was shot in a café early in the day, and her husband then turned the pistol on himself, shooting twice. He was a poor self-shot, being admitted to Altoona Hospital with .36 caliber bullet wounds in his side, and another in the lower part of his hear. The coroner, Dr. Daniel Replogle, spoke to him, and he was quoted as saying, “I am not going to tell why I did it.”

According to Altoona Mirror’s April 12, 1949 edition, Kathryn Emma (Beatty) Kirstner (age 35) was shot twice by her husband John Kirstner (age 44) as they sat in a booth at Palidore Cafe located at 1117 Eleventh Avenue in Altoona. John then shot himself twice. Kathryn died almost instantly while John survived. Kathryn left behind three children from a former marriage.
The crime is listed as occuring “this morning at 12:25 o’clock”.
