Teeters, Sandy: 2005
Sandy Teeters was shot and killed by her ex-husband, Matthew B. Woomer, on November 19, 2005, at her home in Tyrone, Pennsylvania. Sandy Teeters had been a graduate of the South Hills Business School and worked at Victoria’s Secret in the Logan Valley Mall, Altoona. She and Woomer had been married but had at least separated; she had three children from a former relationship, and he had two as well.
Woomer made a stop at his regular convenience store, Choice, in Tyrone, earlier in the day. There were no indications in his demeanor or actions to indicate what he was planning.
Around 7:45 p.m. the evening of the murder, a relative of Woomer’s received a telephone call from him. During the call, Woomer stated he had shot and killed his ex-wife. “Sandy’s dead,” he announced. He asked the relative to let everyone know that he loved them, then hung up. Woomer used a .270 caliber rifle to shoot Ms. Teeters in the chest before using the same weapon on himself. The bodies were found by a relative in an upstairs bedroom, and police were called to the scene. The Tyrone police chief, Joseph Beachem, called the murder-suicide a tragic thing. State police, Bellwood police, and the county coroner, Patricia Ross, also assisted at the scene.
